So you want to start a business, but you’re not sure how to get things off the ground without taking out a personal loan. My partner and I started our beauty brand Curlkalon Hair Collection in January of 2015 using our own money until we received our first working capital loan in August 2015. I’ll share tips with you on how we did it, but be prepared to put in the work to may it happen–it is possible! Continue reading “How to Start a Business Without Loans” »

Kids are so inspiring! Most just have a determination that us adults somehow lost along the way! Insert my daughter Mckenzie, she’s one of the smartest, funniest and cutest girls I know and I love how when she’s put to a challenge–this girl is determined to meet it!
Kenzie is such an active young lady so I decided to take her by Emory University in Atlanta to check out the track since she picked out an uber cute track suit from Osh Kosh B’gosh. I not only love the positive messages infused in their styles but it’s super affordable and Kenzie doesn’t break the bank staying on trend. Plus she needed to run off some of her energy (lol) ! It just so happen students where moving into their dorms and being taken on a tour of the campus grounds–she became inspired.
Something in her mind clicked as she looked with amazement at a bunch of independent 18-20 year olds who were off on a new journey. She said “mommy I want to go to college here” I simply responded ” you can go anywhere you set your mind to go as long as you work hard”.

Hey! I’m in New York for a hot minute ( the weekend) and one thing I love about traveling is eating! I love exploring what a city has to offer by finding out where the best places to eat. I’ve found out over the years that generally it’s not the locals who know but the tourists!
Yesterday after traveling from Atlanta to Brooklyn I worked up a nice size appetite and after checking out @ny_foodie on Instagram decided to uber my way to Manhattan to check out this joint (that’s what they call it) called Sticky Fingers on W 8th Ave. The place basically measured up to every customer review I read on their Facebook–it was next level chicken! And let’s not forget to pay homage to those lemon pepper fries (on the menu they are called Cajun fries but the server said its lemon pepper seasoning) I had–OMG!
The food is made to order so be patient its worth every crunchy bite! Although this is the only chicken joint in New York ( well Manhattan) I visited, I’m dubbing it as the best until I taste otherwise!
Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was great! We had a blast celebrating Kai’s 2nd birthday and just hanging out as a family despite the rain! Well, it’s back to school for my little ones today and Kenzie is serving printed perfection for her third week back and I had to share how easy it was to put this look together and where you can find each piece if you have a stylish girl like mine. Disclosure: I teamed up with Oshkosh to share Mckenzie’s unique style. All clothes were given c/o, however it’s important for me to give my readers the real deal on what I believe is quality for families therefore, all opinions are my own and do not represent OshKosh.
“I never knew it was going to get to this level. There are a lot of times when I wish it wasn’t so much. But I wanted this type of exposure for the dance community. I wanted it to be an opportunity for me to educate people and get them to become ballet fans and to educate them on what it means to be a Black dancer—a Black ballet dancer…”—Misty Copeland, ESSENCE
As the new principal ballerina at the American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland spreads more of her “Black Girl Magic” to young dancers everywhere. The September issue of ESSENCE hits newsstands on Friday, August 14th. For more on this issue, visit ESSENCE.com.

Seriously, my life is a result of taking chances and stepping out on faith! I share so much of it because I want to show dreamers what could actually happen if you just step out on faith. Now don’t me wrong, it’s not easy and honestly I could do better at sharing some of my failures so that dreamers can see it’s a gamble but well worth it! Anyway, I didn’t mean to start preaching, but I come in contact with so many people who want to pursue their passion and I just wanna grab them and say just freakin’ do it–unfortunately it’s not that easy. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. I was invited to WSB-TV for a back 2 school luncheon and I thought I was going there to talk about bus routes, uniforms and cafeteria food…but to my surprise I had the time of my life! For Atlanta school is back in session next week. I don’t know about you, but the Summer went entirely too fast for me and I’m sure the kids would agree with me on this one. My husband is an educator in Georgia, so I know how important it is for teachers to have supplies for their classrooms–especially when most of them pay for their own supplies. While at WSB-TV a couple of weeks ago I learned that Kroger will be giving Georgia educators free supplies (Today Only July 28, 2015) to kick off their school year. Read more for the details.
